Applied Flow Technology
Systems Engineers need support to manage complex fluid flow systems containing an immense number of variables, which are almost impossible to comprehend. AFT software provides this very effectively.
Functionality is no longer enough. Your fluid handling systems must be cost and energy efficient while providing a high degree of operability and reliability, tightly integrated with other systems. The days of analysing line by line are past. Meeting today’s challenges requires a systems approach to your design. AFT FathomTM is the preferred piping network analysis and system modeling software, providing the engineer a logical and flexible graphical interface.
Equipment characteristics, analysis and output are tightly integrated with your system’s schematic representation. AFT Fathom implements a wide array of features without sacrificing the engineer’s need for a short learning curve and ease of use.
Comprehensive Capabiliites
Just as the demands on your system design increase in scope, AFT Fathom 7.0 provides an amazingly broad scope of capabilities. Addressing open and closed loop systems, AFT Fathom includes a built-in library of fluids and fittings, variable model configurations, pump and control valve modeling and much more. Today’s complex compressible flow systems surpass the best traditional design methods resulting in missed opportunities to reduce cost. Sizing for minimal system cost requires determining the best combination of a staggering numbering of variables is now beyond the best of human intelligence can handle. Now, AFT TitanTM, with IntelliFlowTM, eliminates these boundaries. Providing the systems engineer a new technology to intelligently size the system as a whole, your compressible flow piping system can be optimally sized resulting in substantial cost savings. With comprehensive system modeling capabilities, a flexible graphical interface and an advanced optimisation engine, AFT Titan offers a quantum leap improvement to the traditional pipe and duct design process.
Cost Reduction Through Intelligent System Sizing
Traditional engineering methods are limited in their ability to select pipes, ducts and equipment sizes on a system basis. Even simple systems will have billions of potential size combinations to consider for their various components, far too many to evaluate by traditional methods. In contrast, intelligent system sizing selects all components simultaneously as a unit. This is the essence of IntelliFlowTM technology. AFT Titan harnesses this technology to automatically identify and select the lowest cost design to meet your requirements.
IntelliFlow combines powerful network pipe flow analysis algorithms with state-of-the-art numerical optimisation algorithms to intelligently evaluate the complex interaction of system design variables. The system design is repeatedly perturbed and reanalysed to define the shape of the design space, revealing combinations of design parameters that minimize cost. Design constraints specified by the engineer direct the search in areas that satisfy design requirements such as pressure, velocity and compressor pressure rise. Searching continues until an optimum design is found, which is then presented to the user.

Waterhammer analysis tools have been difficult to use, requiring extensive specialised knowledge. AFT ImpulseTM offers the ease-of-use of a drag-and-drop interface and built-in waterhammer modeling expertise. AFT Impulse helps you design and operate your systems with greater reliability and safety by avoiding the potentially catastrophic effects of waterhammer and other undesirable system transients.
A Tool for Specialists and Non-specialists
Piping systems engineers typically do not have the time to become specialists in waterhammer modeling. Using Impulse 4.0, they can be equipped with the proper tools to design and analyse for waterhammer transients in liquid systems containing water, petroleum and chemical products, cryogens, refrigerants and more. Waterhammer specialists will find a no compromise tool capable of modeling a broad range of waterhammer events, including transient cavitation and various surge suppression devices.

BOS Fluids
BOS Fluids enables the analysis of steady state and transient flow in liquid or gas carrying piping systems. The program can import neutral files from CAESAR II and FE/Pipe in order to generate the network geometry; alternatively the piping topology may be entered directly using the standard input mode.
A number of boundary condition options are available in order to fully describe the system including fixed or variable flow or head, harmonic flow or head and dead ends.
BOS Fluids is used to analyse fluid conditions such as pressure drop, water hammer, slug flow and vapour cavities. Force vs time data produced by BOS Fluids, can be read directly by CAESAR II to perform a Dynamics Time History mechanical analysis on the system.
Typical analyses using BOS Fluids include:
- Water Transmission and Distribution Systems
- Main Cooling Water Systems for Chemical Plants
- Sewage Water Systems
- Combined Power and Drinking Water Cycle Power Stations
- Oil Product Transport Lines
- Tanker Loading and Unloading Systems
