Stress Analysis Overview

Fern's CAE Division is a primary supplier of world leading process plant stress analysis solutions.
With over 60 years of combined stress analysis experience, we supply a broad service which is highly appreciated by our customers.
Supply and implementation, plus training and support, are professionally delivered for all products provided. We also offer a consultancy design, customisation and bureau service for customers where the need arises.
Our aim is to develop a proactive relationship with our customers and to provide the appropriate infrastructures and support to enable them to improve the competitiveness and quality of the products and services that they provide.
Our software partners include COADE, Paulin Research Group and Robobat, all renowned for their excellent products, pro-active development, service and value.
CAESAR II
CAESAR II is a complete pipe stress analysis software program which has become the standard for pipe stress analysis. It is the software preferred worldwide by owner operators, major contractors and engineering firms. It is therefore the program by which all others are measured.
CAESAR II includes a full range of the latest international piping codes and it provides for the static and dynamic analysis of piping systems. Calculation capabilities include fibre reinforced plastic, buried piping, wind, wave and earthquake loading, expansion joints, valves, flanges and vessel nozzles, pipe components and nozzle flexibilities.
The program models structural steel and provides spectrum and time history analysis and automatic spring sizing.
CAESAR II includes an extensive material database with allowable stresses for most design codes, in addition to component databases for valves, flanges and expansion joints.
CAESAR II has a bi-directional link with CADWorx Plant, a comprehensive 3D modelling and drafting package. When used together significant productivity gains can be achieved.
Version 5.10 of CAESAR II includes a number of additional capabilities including
- In-line flange evaluation
- The direct importing of a CADWorx Plant model including vessels, steelwork and other equipment for visualisation
- The importing and exporting of custom report templates
- Input graphics speed improvements between 20% and 50%
- Additional European materials and component databases
CAESAR II software is tested using stringent quality assurance standards and is fully supported by a trained team at Fern backed up by COADE's software engineers and programmers.
PV-Elite and CodeCalc
PV-Elite is a comprehensive program for the complete structural design or analysis of vertical towers and horizontal vessels according to latest standards from ASME VIII (Div 1 and Div 2), PD 5500 and EN 13445.
Heat Exchangers and tubesheets can be designed in accordance with ASME UHX, TEMA and PD 5500 requirements.
Local stress analysis on nozzles may be performed in accordance with WRC 107, WRC 297, PD 5500, or using Finite Element techniques provided by NozzlePRO Finite Element Analysis software.
PV-Elite evaluates the entire vessel, analysing the effects of vessel deadweight and bending due to wind and seismic loads. It combines these overall loads with pressure to design and/or check the vessel wall thickness. Basing stress calculations on this total structural load ensures sufficient wall thickness for the vessel in its operating environment and ensures proper design of the vessel supports.
Wind and seismic design can be carried out in accordance with a number of design codes including NBC, UBC, ASCE, BS 6399, Euro Code, IBC, user defined, 'g' loading, Response Spectrum and many others. Fitness for Service per API-579 can be performed for the assessment of remaining life for vessels with flaws, corrosion etc.
PV-Elite has comprehensive material databases for ASME, BS and European (EN) materials. CodeCalc is included within PV-Elite.
CodeCalc provides individual analysis and assessment of Pressure Vessel components in accordance with the ASME code.
Tank
TANK is a comprehensive, easy-to-use software program for the design, analysis and evaluation of welded steel oil storage tanks according to the latest American Petroleum Institute (API) Standards 650 and 653. It provides owners, operators and engineering firms with quick and comprehensive designs for new tank construction and evaluation of existing tanks.
TANK delivers the features and stability typical of a COADE software product, including immediate, top-rate technical support. TANK is much more than the computerisation of a time consuming engineering task. Its development was shaped by the input of many "API-650/653 expert" engineers whose influence ensured that TANK performs the required tasks effectively and efficiently. A menu-driven scroll-and-select interface provides logical options when and where expected. Context-sensitive help provides instant technical assistance for each data field, with code references as often as possible.
TANK offers the following methods of design and analysis
- variable point
- one-foot
- Appendix A thickness
TANK includes
- tools analyse and design supported cone roofs
- evaluate bottom plate minimum thickness and shell settlement
- determine seismic requirements including anchorage design
TANK evaluates
